What to Pack in a Carry-On Bag
Whether it's a long vacation or a short trip, you will need a carry-on bag with all your essentials by your side. Of course, the length, destination, and travel style matter when it comes to packing, meaning your essentials will vary from trip to trip. But what are the things you should always take along? If you take your packing seriously and are afraid of forgetting something important, here's a handy list for essentials in your carry-on:
Money and documents
Although these are quite obvious, some people still manage to forget their passport, tickets, or visa documents, which almost always results in ruined vacation plans. Also, jewelry, credit cards, money, and valuable electronics should be taken with you in your carry-on bag, in case your suitcase gets lost or stolen.
If you take some pills or vitamins regularly, it's a good idea to have them in your carry-on. Even if you will only have a short flight, it's better take all your medications with you on board in case your checked luggage gets lost.
Body care items
Pack lip balm, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, lotion, or any other self care or beauty items that will make you feel more comfortable on a plane. Hydrating face masks, lotions, and toners can make the dry air of plane much more bearable for sensitive skin. Make sure you have your toiletries in travel size bottles so that you could take a shower once you arrive. If you have a layover, some airports even have showers available while you wait!
Don't forget to take something you can change into upon your arrival as well as a pair or two of underwear. If you are taking particularly expensive or designer outfits with you, and you're concerned about the security of your checked luggage, you can pack those in your carry-on as well. You can also take an extra pair of shoes with you - one comfy, easy-to-take off pair for the airport, and one dressier pair to change into when you arrive at your destination.
Food and Drink
Although there's almost always an opportunity to buy food and drinks on board, some travelers prefer bringing their own food. You may take some snacks, fruits, or protein bars. However, you should check with your airline if the food you want to bring is allowed. Another good tip is to take an empty reusable water bottle that you can fill up once you get through security, so that you don't have to pay exhorbitant prices for water while you wait to board.
As previously mentioned, expensive electronic devices such as laptops, tablets and phones should go in your carry-on to reduce the risk of damage or theft. Bring an extra battery pack or two to keep them charged, and pre-download music, a movie, or a few episodes of your favorite TV show on Netflix to watch during the flight. If your vacation is strictly electronics-free, take a book or two. Think about how you will entertain yourself in advance so that you won't get bored.
When you are packing a carry-on, it's important to remember these two things:
  1. The rest of your luggage can sometimes get lost, so make sure that all of your most important valuables and documents are on your person.
  2. The most important things to keep your boarding, flight, and landing comfortable should be closest at hand, so pack these items at the top of your carry-on bag or in your hand luggage
Then you're all set to go for your trip!
